THE SECOND SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

ON NONLINEAR SCIENCE AND APPLICATIONS

(Shanghai NSA¡¯05£¬Shanghai & Wuxi,  June 3-7, 2005)

The Second Announcement and Call for Papers

Shanghai International Symposium on Nonlinear Science and Applications - 2003 (Shanghai NSA'03) was a great success. Many participants suggested that this symposium should be developed into a series of symposia, and should be held mostly in Shanghai or nearby places every two years.

Date and Location:

The Second Shanghai International Symposium on Nonlinear Science and Applications (Shanghai NSA¡¯05) will be held in the Shanghai Convention Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai and Wuxi (a beautiful resort near Shanghai) on June 3-7, 2005.

Sponsor Organizations:

Shanghai NSA¡¯05 is sponsored by the Shanghai Society for Nonlinear Science, co-sponsored by the Shanghai Center for Nonlinear Science, organized by the Research Center for Nonlinear Science of Fudan University and the Shanghai Society of Biophysics, and supported by National Science Foundation of China and Center for Chaos Control and Synchronization, City University of Hong Kong.

Aim:

Nonlinear science is one of the focusing research fields and most active scientific frontier in the new century, and Shanghai NSA¡¯05 is devoted to this important area of scientific research. The symposium will provide both experts and new comers from different research backgrounds with an excellent opportunity to review the latest progress and development in the field of nonlinear science, and to exchange their experience, progress, and ideas. The symposium will consist of both oral and poster presentations in three days, plus a one-day tour of the beautiful resort city Wuxi.

A few renowned leading scientists in this field will be giving keynote speeches in the symposium.

About Shanghai:

Shanghai is the biggest city in China, and a harmonic mixture of the traditional and the modern, the east and the west. Shanghai has completely changed in the last decade. The great metropolis of SHANGHAI is currently undergoing one of the fastest economic expansions that the world has ever seen. While shops overflow and the skyline fills with skyscrapers, Shanghai now seems certain to recapture its position as East Asia's leading business city, a status it last held before World War II. Visiting and touring Shanghai are truly enjoyable for many. For more information, see: http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-191501624-shanghai_vacations-i

About Wuxi

Wuxi is a beautiful resort city near Shanghai. It is famous for Taihu Lake, which is a major national scenic spot in China. It's the third largest fresh water lake in China, and the scenery here is breathtaking. Xihui Park covers 46 hectares (113 acres) and comprises of numerous gardens, teahouses, museums, temples and pagodas. Among the more famous sights are the Tai Bo Memorial Hall built in honor of the founder of Wuxi, the Imperial Stele Pavilion with decorative ceilings and inscriptions by emperor Qianlong (1736-1795) and the Municipal Museum which has a good collection of early pottery. Giant Buddha Statue is another place worth visiting, which was constructed from 1994-1997 with a height of 88 meters + a 3 story building base of 13.5 meters. The statue was cast in bronze metal with gross weight of 700 tons.
